MOZART'S
BIRTHPLACE
located
in No. 9 Getreidegasse, is where Leopold Mozart's
family lived from 1747 to 1773. Wolfgang Amadeus
Mozart was born here on January 27, 1756. Today
the rooms once occupied by the Mozart family are
home to a museum. The most famous exhibits include
Mozart's childhood violin, his concert violin,
his clavichord, the pianoforte, and portraits
and correspondence of the Mozart family.
The museum is owned by the International Mozarteum
Foundation.

MOZART'S
RESIDENCE
IThe
Mozart family lived in Mozart's Residence, 8 Makartplatz,
from 1773 to 1787. Most of the building was destroyed
by a bomb in 1944, with only the portal entrance
and the "Dancing Master's Hall" surviving
unscathed. The building was restored to its original
appearance by the Mozarteum Foundation. The reconstructed
building was officially opened on 26 January 1996.

MOZART
SQUARE AND MONUMENT
The
Mozart Square with the Mozart monument and the
Glockenspiel is an ideal starting point for a
tour of the city. The Trakl memorial is situated
in the birthplace of the famous Salzburg poet,
Georg Trakl, which is located on the adjoining
Waagplatz. The Mozart Square was created after
Prince Archbishop Wolf Dietrich had numerous houses
demolished.
