Ice Caves Tour
Visit the Giant Ice Caves in Werfen near Salzburg
Our route takes us over the Lueg Pass, past the memorial to Josef Struber who fought for Salzburg's freedom, and then along the Salzach to Werfen, where we are welcomed by the sight of a mighty castle.
Hohenwerfen Castle became widely known for providing the backdrop for the film "Where Eagles Dare" with Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood.
After taking a cable-car and a couple of short walks on foot, we can step into the largest ice caves in the world. A labyrinth of tunnels over 47 km long extends through this massive cave system in the mountainside.
1 km has been made accessible and can be entered by visitors. In the company of experienced cave guides, our path leads us over a huge subterranean glacier and past mysterious ice figures to bring us into another world.
