The most beautiful thing during winter are the snowy landscapes. One way to enjoy those landscapes is by snow-shoe hiking!

With the snow-shoes on your feet you can walk easily through the enchanting winter landscapes of Salzburg. Previous knowledge and experience in snow-shoeing is not necessary but you should bring walking boots and winter clothes. If you are a guest in Grödig, there are many possibilities for excursions at the surroundings of Salzburg and the near Bavaria. One of those possibilities is the Königssee in Berchtesgaden.

The Königssee is located in the natural park of Berchtesgaden and a popular local recreation area. The lake is surrounded by afforested mountain walls, which also cause the popular echo. 

From April until October there is a boat driving on the lake. It has 4 stops on its way, which gives the possibility to make stops and hike in the picturesque area.

The annual Christmas show on December 24 made the manor ‚Gut Aiderbichl’ popular. The Celtic name ‚Aiderbichl’ symbolizes the location of the manor, which is supposed to have a special energy.

On the one hand it’s the touching animal stories that fascinate people. (Every year many animals are spared their original destines and spend the rest of their lives without sorrows on the manor.) On the other hand the manor ‘Aiderbichl’ also tries to raise awareness for people who need help and often are forgotten, like for example handicapped people.

Especially in wintertime, the manor is a popular place for excursions. From November 20 until January 9 there is also a Christmas market.

The river Salzach is an important part of the city Salzburg, as its course splits the city in two parts. The Almkanal, another river in Salzburg, is not as well-known although its origin is very interesting.

 The first parts of the Almkanal were built in the 8^th century already. In the 17^th century the river and canal was finished. Since then it was important for economic utilization but outdoor leisure as well.

 Some parts, for example the one near the castle of Leopoldskron are even under nature conservation.

 In September, there is no water in the Almkanal. Thus there is the possibility to participate guided tours and learn more about the interesting history of the Almkanal.

For those who like plants and gardens, the botanical garden in Salzburg is a good recommendation.

650 different species and plants can be found on the grounds of the University Salzburg.

In the building of the University itself, there is a facade green house with tropical plants. The other plants, also some horticultural cultures can be found in the spacious garden.

From 10-18 o’clock the botanic garden is open (no entrance fees).
