It is August and the cultural highlight of Salzburg is in full activity. The first Festival in Salzburg took place in 1920 with the premiere of the famous play ‘Jedermann’ (everyman) of Hugo von Hofmannsthal. The ‘Jedermann’ soon became very popular and was played every year since.
This year 186 events take place, for example the Mozart morning performance, the circle of the composer Schostakowitsch and plays from Gustav Mahler. Performing orchestras will be the Viennese Orchestra, the Berlin Orchestra, the Camerata Salzburg and many other.
There will be the operas ‘Don Giovani’, ‘Macbeth’, Cosi fan tutti’ and ‘Le nozze di Figaro’ as well as two operas from Richard Strauss.
Traditional highlight is of course the well-known play ‘Everyman’. But also the other plays from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Peter Handke and William Shakespeare are worth seeing.
