2014 we celebrate Easter in April: Palm Sunday is on April 13th. On this day we start Easter by carrying palms. But where does this tradition come from?
On Palm Sunday the palms are carried first to the church where they get blessed. After that we place them in our houses. It should remind us of the day where Jesus rode into Jerusalem and People cheered to him as a Kind by laying down Palms on his way. They did that because Palms were a sign for independence these days. A traditional Palm (or as we call it “Palmbuschen”) is made of 7 natural materials. Some People do it a bit less traditional and decorate their palms with small easter eggs and ribbons.
Another Tradition on Palm Sunday: The Family member which sleeps longer than the others is called “Palmesel” (that means Palm donkey)
