Since May 2013, the house of mountains is open (daily, from 9 am- 5 pm) for everybody who takes interest in the national park and its nature. The goal is to make the nature and its knowledge accessible for everybody. The house of mountains informs about the ecological conditions, the meaning and beauty of the national park.

This way the house of nature is an information center as well as a cultural and touristic highlight. It explains the characteristics of the national park Berchtesgaden and this way also helps preserving it.

Linzergassenfest

The district and street festivals are a popular change to the every-day routine for many local people in Salzburg.

This year the Kaiviertel starts the festivities with its Kaiviertelfest from May 24^th-25^th.

In June, the Linzergasse celebrates the Linzergassenfest from June 26^th-28^th.

And last but not least, there is the Steingassenfest from August 23^rd-24^th.

Kaiviertelfest

Some festivals, like the Linzergassenfest already exist since 30 years and therefore became a popular event for many local people. But whether you attend the Kaiviertelfest, the Linzergassenfest or the Steingassenfest- the festivals are used to show off the district/street, advertise for local businesses and entertain the visitors. There is no charge but usually a variety of bands and music as well as local dishes and events for children.

So the only thing that is left to do, is hope that the weather is warm and dry so that this years festivals are as popular and successful as always!

Salzburg is known for its variety of famer’s markets, like the Grünmarkt at the Universitätsplatz, the Schranne at the Mirabellplatz (every Thursday) or the organic-farmer’s market at the Kajetanerplatz (every Friday).

But also the saisonal and theme markets are very popular, like the Rupertikirtag (in autumn), the Salzachgalerien (in summer) or the christmas-markets (in winter).

One major market in spring is the Winzermarkt at the Mirabellplatz (4-5. May 2013, 11-12. May 2013, 18-19. May 2013). All who want to taste or buy regional, Austrian wine of high quality will not be disappointed there.

This year the museum celebrates it’s 30iest anniversary- with a jubilee exhibition. Barbara Musil, Elisabeth Schmierl and Büro Josef Böhm are the names of the artist featured in this exhibition. The last name- Büro Josef Böhm- represents an artist collective that designed an unconventional model railway landscape that invites visitors to embark on an imaginary (time) travel trough the history of the MdM Rupertinum.

The other to artists, Barbara Musil and Elisabeth Schmirls show their art in the MdM Salzburg. Barbara Musil is showing works of art and curiosities inspired by the ‘cabinet of wonders’ whereas Elisabeth Schmirls art is based on research into digital pictorial media.

The jubilee exhibition is shown at the Museum der Moderne until May 5^th.

From 9 am until 6 pm the Hoppolino offers everything children want: trampolines, climbing wall, slides, an area especially for toddlers and a soft ball shooting area. For the parents and adults in general, there is a restaurant with view to the children’s area, so you can keep an eye on them while enjoying your meal or drink.

Especially for days with bad weather, family trips or birthday parties, the Hoppolino is a good recommendation!

The ski jumper Gregor Schlierenzauer takes pictures since 3 years from now and shoots impressions from his many travels. After his first exhibition “snapshots”, “quiet moments” is his second exhibition already.

Schlierenzauer gets support from the Leica Camera AG, which chose him for their mentoring programme and offers him high-quality material.

His work is displayed from March 4^th until May 1^st  at the Hangar 7 in Salzburg. The net profit from sold pictures goes to the foundation ‘Wings for Life’ which works on healing paraplegia.

All 8 restaurants in Grödig serve various dishes with lamb meat. The meat comes from local farmers and is of best quality, of course.

You can enjoy the Untersberg lamb from March 24^th until April 7^th in all restaurants in Grödig.

Mozart Residence

“A portrait between imagination and reality”- that is the title of the special exhibition that takes currently place in the Mozart Residence.

As the title already reveals- the exhibition takes interest in the artistic portrayal of W.A. Mozart. His face is displayed on many items: posters, books, compact disks and souvenirs.  But how authentic are the pictures of Mozart? As paintings in the exhibition “Mozart pictures- pictures of Mozart” show, the paintings of Mozart after his death differ to the paintings before his death. Therefore the image we know of him was a construction after his death.

The exhibition exists of 80 exhibits, from the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundations as well as private items on loan from all over Europe.
